Voting Question: How much would you say this jewelry set is worth?
Saw this at an antiques store. Price was $125, but there is a 50% discount on the jewelry...the guy said he thinks it's tardy 40's-50's because of the size and design. He said it's copper with silver plating. On one of the earrings the "pearl" (most of them don't appear to be real pearls) is showing signs of wear. I would like to know how much you think one should shell out for this. My pal was going to receive it, but I told her to wait a bit, to look if perhaps she can negotiate. Fuzzy pic of the set: http://i33.tinypic.com/1gkvis.jpg The earrings are clip-ons and this one is the pearl that's worn off: http://i34.tinypic.com/2aev28x.jpg This is the necklace, close-up, only the middle pearl seems to be real: http://i37.tinypic.com/zvsuas.jpg The back of the "pendant"; it can be used as a brooch too: http://i36.tinypic.com/2s1rfhz.jpg Another pic of the earring with the worn off "pearl": http://i35.tinypic.com/wjwbkj.jpg

Voting Question: Where can I buy a gecko pendant that holds a pearl in its mouth?
The pendant I picture is: the gecko hanging by its tail and holds a pearl in its mouth. I saw it once - the gecko was gold, and the pearl was opalescent (i.e. off-white). I'm looking for anything like what I describe - the jewelry doesn't have to be gold, etc. Thanks!

Voting Question: Will gold vintage jewelry match my bridesmaid's ivory shoes?
My wedding is in March, the bridesmaids dresses are tea length and sage green. I was planning on having them wear ivory peep-toe heels of their choice (they can't agree on an exact shoe). What color jewelry is acceptable for them to wear? I actually already bought them each a different gold vintage necklace to wear for their gifts. Does gold jewelry clash with ivory shoes? My jewelry will be a pearl set.

Resolved Question: She tried her best to ruin my kid's wedding!?
Here's how my husband's "sainted mom" (yes, that's what he always called her) behaved when she came for my daughter's wedding. Tell everyone who's nearby how her stepson, who was broke, had to buy a suit from the Salvation Army to attend his daughter's wedding. It was 2" too short in the pantleg, thereby embarrassing her to death.. Show us photos of her step granddaughter in her "foolish wedding gown" that she'd bought from JC Penney. Stupid looking sleeves. Guess what! Identical to my daughter's gown. find out that my DH had to pay for the rehearsal dinner as well as the wedding. Go to this rehearsal dinner, order the cheapest item on the menu to keep her son some money. Even tho the waitress told her there wasn't any chicken thawed out so it would take longer to do this. And then, loudly demand her dinner, complaining because it took longer. Stating she was diabetic & needed to eat on time. She was NOT diabetic. Dinging her knife against her cup, till the bride told her to knock it off, right now, please. Seeing that her son put a nice sized tip on the table for the waitress, she picked up the money and put it in her purse. Once at home, she gave her son the "money you forgot on the table at the restaurant." Then blew a gasket because I told him to give me the tip, as I had seen her steal it and put another tip down for the waitress. Gave the bride a pretty pearl necklace to wear at the wedding, then saw that the bride ALSO wore a costume jewelry pendant given to her by her 12 year old new SIL. Threw a huge fit, because the bride had "cheapened" her necklace by wearing that worthless one with it. Discovered that I had forgotten to provide a gift table in the church basement for those who wanted to bring gifts to the wedding itself instead of the reception. Said that I was being my usual, forgetful self, who could never do anything right anyway. Saw that the GROOM opened her gift, which she had given to the BRIDE, not to HIM. Why hadn't I told him to keep his hands off the gifts? Not really mollified when he admired the fine stitching in the embroidered pillowcases. Got her coat mixed up with another guest who had an identical coat. That became my fault, too, for not seeing to it that there were 2 racks, so she could put her coat on a different rack, not getting it mixed up. Complaining because the wedding was at 2PM and the reception was at 7 PM. needy planning on my part, and what was she supposed to do with the free hours between the 2 events? We had a DJ providing music. He did soft, dinner music while folks ate, then cranked up the volume and did rock, for the dancing. My MIL insisted that I tell that young man to turn it down, immediately. I said it was supposed to be noisy. She said it was far too noisy, and she would have to leave if I didn't receive him to play it at the proper level. Why hadn't I instructed him better, anyway? I went to that DJ (across the room from her) and told him that he was doing a really fine job. That I was pleased with his work, so "keep it up." Sure enough, within 10 minutes, she was out the door. After telling my husband what a rotten wedding I had put on, how I couldn't do anything right, and why hadn't HE done the planning, since he probably knows I am not fit nor able to do anything the right way, anyway. She wasn't pleased, either, when he told her we had planned this wedding for the kids, not for her. The kids thanked us profusely, declaring the whole wedding and reception was "perfect" MIL was long gone by then, didn't hear them say it. Do you think I did the right thing by telling the DJ to "keep it up" instead of turning the volume down? Can you imagine what my MIL told the other members of the family about how I plan and put on weddings? (I can hear her, now!) Over our years together, DH has told his mom to respect me, or else, several times. Trouble is, it didn't last. She is very religious, self righteous. And devious. Usually, if I complain to him over some nasty thing she said to me, DH will go back to mom & ask why she said that. Then she gets every defensive, says "every I said was...." and say the same thing more or less, again. But in such a sweet tone, innocent. Then I arrive off looking mean and foolish. Ah, she knows how to stab me in the back. She always resented me, I am not good enough for her son. He spends too much money on me. But I have no idea why she wanted to ruin her granddaughter's wedding. Unless it was just the perfect opportunity to show everyone that I don't do anything right.

Resolved Question: mixing "real" and "fake" pearls..?
Okay, so the plan was to wear my akoya pearl necklace and matching earrings with my wedding dress, so I didn't budget for jewelry. I decided at my last fitting, that with my hair down, I may need a little "more" than just a stud earring. I have a pair of really pretty "fake" pearl earrings that have very tiny CZ leading down to a drop pearl, the same color as the pearls in my necklace. They look nice, not cheesy or plastic. Is it wrong to wear the fake ones while I have a matching pair sitting in my jewelry box? I've worn the studs numerous times, they were a gift from my fiance and I adore them.. I just don't know if they fit what I need for this day.

Resolved Question: Pearl necklaces--need advice/opinions! (nothing sexual :x ughh)?

Resolved Question: Okay, I got to get back to the Whore of Babylon, okay?
I asked about this a couple weeks ago, but didn't receive a very good answer. Now, in Revelation -- "Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert. There I saw a lady sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. 4 The lady was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. 5 This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE mom OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6 I saw that the lady was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. " My question is, wouldn't you find this nice of appealling? The lady dressed in every her finery -- the nice clothes, the jewelry, and the really impressive mount? Maybe the abominations and the filth were a little turn-off, but overall wasn't she somewhat attractive?

Ok, I saw this locket and I'm thinking of getting it for my girlfriend, it's Silver, and has a diamond set in mom of pearl in the middle of it. My question is, does mom of pearl have any symbolic significance to it? I ask because my gran has some saying about pearls being for tears and heartache, is that a normal thought of it or is that just my gran being insane and coming up with her possess wacky ideas? I checked, it is Sterling Silver (she's got allergies to Nickel) and yeah, with the price it had better be good craftmanship, but she's worth it.

Resolved Question: What jewelry to wear with this? Pic included?
Hi, I have a wedding to go to in November, I bought this dress in black (Same dress but different designer, mine has more flare in bottom and looks like a 50's cocktail dress because of it) and was wondering what type of jewelry to wear. My sister has a long pear necklace that she says would look awesome. I am not much of a jewelry wearer, I like silver and chunky day to day things, I dont wear breacelets or rings. I was thinking of wearing nothing and put like a sparkly something on my hair with my updo. What do you think? Resolved Question: Wedding necklace, Grandmother was upset?
She had given the bride a necklace to wear. A nice set of pearls, with a nice of pink luster over the white. Very pretty. When the groom's family came for the wedding, his little sister gave the bride a costume jewelry pendant necklace to wear. This little sister was only 12, and really wanted to give the bride this gift. She had bought it with her possess money. The bride thanked her new little sister, and put the pendant on, along WITH the pearls. Grandmother was extremely unhappy. She had given the bride expensive pearls, and this little "upstart" of a girl had brought along a pendant that wasn't worth anything. The expensive pearls had now been "cheapened" by being worn along with costume jewelry. Do you think the bride should have told the little girl no thank you, as she already had a valuable set of pearls to wear? The bride had made her new MIL very glad by accepting the pendant from her little girl, but made her grandmother extremely unhappy. If you were the bride, what would you have done in this situation?

However, after doing a little bit of browsing online, I realize that I HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT PEARLS! I don't know which nice is better, tahitian pearls or akoya pearls or black sea pearls....I'd like to know a little about them every before I go into a jewelry store so they don't take me for a sucker and try and jack up their prices. Any sort of insight would be greatly appreciated!

Resolved Question: Funny Joke! (Just Wanted To Share It!)?
What Do You Think?........ I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! A man and a lady have been married for many years. It was their anniversary, and the wife woke up excited and kissed her husband with a gift for him on her lap. He woke up with a blank look on his face, which then turned to shock. She realized he had forgoten their anniversary. She asked where her gift was. He said it slipped his mind, due to the busy week at work. She was FURIOUSE! She ranted on and on and locked herself in the bathroom. The husband left for the store and got her roses and chocolates. He knocked on the door, and she opened the door and took the flowers and hit him over the head with them, leaving petals everywhere, and flipped the chocolates in the air and slammed the door. He left for the store again, he came back with 2 tickets to the ballet, she said nothing and slammed the door again, once again, he went to the store. He returned to the bathroom door with a platinum necklace and pearl earings. She opened the door walked up to him backing him into the wall and stared at him with mad eyes. She decided to benefit herself from the situation. She said to him: "You dont receive it? Do you!?!?!? YOU FORGOT OUR ANNAVERSARY!!!! You cant make up for that buy giving me the usual flowers, chocolates, tickets, and jewelry!!!! No, it takes a heck of alot more!" to which he responded: "What CAN I do? PLEASE! I feel so bad!!!!!!!!" "Well........I'm going to go to snooze tonight, in my bed, ALONE, and when i wake up, I had better look a brand new, shinney gift in the driveway that can go from 0 to 250 in less than 3 seconds! I want it in silver, with precise accuracy and quick reaction! I want it to give me a rush and a shock at its high preformance and BIG expactations whenever i use it! It had better be there tomorrow morning when i wake up, THEN you will be forgiven.....mostly" The husband left to buy the gift. He had purchased it and was now sitting in the driveway. It was tardy, so he went to snooze on the sofa, anticipating the morning. He woke up early and sat next to his wife on the bed. She looked up and rushed to the window. She was surprised, she put on her robe and walked out to the driveway and picked up a tiny box with white wrapping paper and a red ribbon. She took it inside and sat down to open it. she was curious what it could be......she clearly gave him precise directions! Perhaps it was the keys to her new car! She ripped it open........to look her anniversary gift...... A new, silver, shinney bathroom scale........... That was 3 years ago, he has been missing since then........

Voting Question: What jewelry collection should I get for my birthday?
My mom gave me a choice of what I want for a gift for my 12th birthday of a necklace and earrings set. I'm deciding between either real white pearls, real black pearls, or real blue topaz. The pearls are really pretty, but im not sure where i would wear them, and the blue topaz is my birthstone, but not as valuable as the pearl. Which one would you receive? thanks!

Resolved Question: Jewelry store coupon for free earrings!?
A local jewelry store sent us a card that says if we bring it into the store they give us a pair of pearl earrings with 10K gold studs for free! No purchase necessary. They just want us to check out their place, or whatever. How do you think a jewelry store can do that, I'm assuming they're sending these coupons to tons of people!

Resolved Question: Women & Men: If you could create your dream dress or suit, what would it look like....?
Ok, if you were going to royal ball or a huge sophisticated party (no alcohol) and you could wear anything you wanted........what would it be? Go ahead.....use every imagination and find some detail within.... Here is mine, I would wear a cream with gold thread broquet fabric dress (this fabric is a little weighty and has almost a slightly embossed or waffled texture from a pattern being stitches into in which creates an elaborate quilted appearance, it makes for a great structured bodice of a gown and a very reagal and timeless look that Grace Kelly might have worn when she was princess or like Jacky Kennedy may have chosen as a cocktail dress or formal. Mmmmmm......adore suits made of it too. The gold thread on my particular fabric adds a subtle luster or sparkle and over every.....this single fabric has the appearance of many layers and complexities.... The dress would be structured bodice with as few seams possible, as not to break the visual flow of this complex looking fabric.... It would have a strait across neckline (imagine a tube top but with a fold at the top edge like a sort of lapel across the top edge) there would be 1.5 inch wide straps and the back would have a long and smi narrow opening from the top back to the low back (pretty darn low but not scandalous) On one side of this opening....there are tiny fabric covered buttons (same broquet fab) they are quite close together like the buttons on a Victorian dress or shoe. These line just one side of the opening (this creates something unexpected as they are not in middle back and only on the right side of back, creating a visual draw to one side ) The opening is laced back and forth like a ballet slipper, with creamy colored silk piping trim......The silk is so fine and shiny, It almost looks like is is made of liquid pearl.... The skirt is very full and wavy, and so..... 1950"s, coming just below the knee. Of course it would take about five miles of netting to make this heavy fabric flare out at the skirt (But lets live a little!) It is worth every the trouble to construct it. For shoes...I would wear pearly, Champagne , vinyl strappy criss-cross shoes with a beautiful white diamond and pearl combo vintage costume jewelry earring clipped on the the side of each shoe for a touch of ahhhh....... Mmmmm.....I can look it so clearly in my mind. And if I wanted to really toss the symbolic icing on the cake, And lose the fear of going too far here, I would wear elbow length gloves made of the softest polished cotton that was mostly mat with the ever slightest silken sheen and vintage glass pearl buttons running along side seam (the gloves are pearly white and slightly brighter than the laces on the back of the gown and the pearls lean more to butter or champagne color. In case you had not noticed, I have a passion for fashion that is overwhelming at times :) . But I also have my priorities. I do not live for fashion but I adore it! and designing it and putting together fun outfits that express or provoke a thought or emotion or memory of something ....Another time, another place. It is every about how it makes you feel, not where you bought it or whether it has some wealthy business guys name on it. I have a dress I bought from a souvenir store in Mexico. just cotton with a halter tie and an embroidered pattern on the waist. Very cultural look. It only cost 20 or 25 dollars and it makes me feel so nice when I wear it. It could have cost a penny and I would adore it far more than a shirt for 50 dollars... No matter how casual or fancy.....or inexpensive a piece of fashion, If it makes you feel beautiful and confident and fits your personality and inner beauty, then you will exude Radience and beauty. Less can be more and more can be more....Whichever way you truly adore, rock it out from the inside out and never put fashion over who you are. You could wear a bag and be the most beautiful girl in the room or a guy with no inclination towards fashion and still be the most handsome guy in the room because you do not have to look any certain way to feel good and that shows and that is every that you really need in fashion. What you believe and how you feel and who you are. if you are a nice and good person who does not need diamonds and silk or a Rolex or Armani suit to be glad.....Then what else matters when it comes to what to wear? At the end of the day, the clothes mean nothing except that perhaps you receive much enjoyment out of expressing yourself through this art form....And I understand that feeling beautiful or handsome brings confidence and that brings joy but cease and think for a moment what it really means to you....If you were in outer Mongolia teaching English to kids who would be profoundly effected by your effort to help them....Would they care what you were wearing? would you care? look, thinking about the deepest and most reel things.....makes us remember where fashion belongs on the priority list. Living with that in mind brings real Thank you (Supermodel) and (Tougher than I look) great name by the way....Your dresses sound gorgeous! The reason I went into every that is because I tend to flow with my feelings a lot and I have long wondered if I should adore fashion so much cause I also am a minimalistic person with certain values and wishes for society to be less burdened by the superficial side of fashion and beauty and I battle with myself for which side I am on (but gosh! I am both and that's ok ) Life is good and I adore fashion! It is more to me than a symbol in society and I can live without it too......but life is more fun with it and it is up to each, how we look and use it. Thanks for making me think about that. Now a realize that I do not have to battle between my adore of it and my values....I can have both in balance. Take care!
